Conference 1

1.Feedback

Writing Process:

During my conference we talked about how my writing has developed from my high school writing. My writing as of right now is in the area it should be at for the beginning of the year and having our first writing piece handed in. We talked about how we should see more of my thoughts and idea being put down on the paper.

 

Reading Process:

For reading process we talked about how I am being more involved with the reads you are giving us. Underlining information that is important and writing my thoughts or ideas on the margins. We talked about the difference between high school and college reading. More of my thoughts need to be written down so I am able to talk about it in a paper.

 

Integrate your own ideas with those of others:

During the conference we talked about how my paper had some of my thoughts thrown into there after a quote but my ideas were never fully expressed. We talked about how I have an understanding of what is going on and how I need to add more of my thoughts into the conversation. We said that my ideas were good and creative but more needed to be explained throughout the paper.

 

Engagement as a learner:

When the class first began I did not talk a lot. When you began to give us the “end of the week time cards” I began to see that I needed to talk more in class. These cards have pushed me to raise my hand and share my thoughts. We talked about even when I do not talk you can tell you have my attention and I am following along with the decision.

 

2.Analyze/Reflect

The things I am doing well in class is making sure I participate and that I stay involved with the class discusses. This is working well because the cards we get at the end of the week saying if we attended all classes that week, if we were a leader or following, and if all homework was completed. I am also good at getting my homework and being prepared for the following class. Something I would like to work on more is giving feedback on other people’s pager. When we were given that assignment for homework I felt as if I was in the right direction on giving feedback but it could of been more constructive. I have also learned that I need to put more of my thoughts on my papers in the upcoming assignments. While you said I had a good beginning and chose a difficult path to start my essay. I need more thoughts to why certain things were said.

 

3.Action Plan/Adjustments

Something I want to approve is talking more in class and not having a problem with sharing my thoughts and what I believe to be important. To change this I am going to make sure I talk at least once a class. From there I will hopefully have no problem engaging in the class discussion. Something I want to continue doing is doing my homework on time and being prepared for the next class. What I will want to say and how to bring up the conversation. Instead of going into class with having to “search” for something to say. Something that I would like to start doing is having critical note taking on the sides of paragraphs in our readers. I would like to this because this would of writing my first PLT much easier because my thoughts would of already been written down.

Feedback

During my Conference we talked about the four important abilities that were used throughout the semester of English 122. My writing process throughout 122 has developed enormously from when I first began the class. We talked about how my growth mindset have developed and helped with all of my writings this semester. My work has grown throughout the semester looking at the two huge writing pieces we did in this class. My reading process has also developed and it became much easier to understand what we were talking about when I really put effort into my journals. Integrate your own words ideas with those of others is shown during my last PLT when integrating my words with Gawande and Dweck. The most important pieces of feedback going through English 122 was engaging without the class, engaging with homework and doing it to my best ability.

Analyze/ Reflect

The thing that I believe I did well during the ending of the semester was my final PLT when I had an endless conversation with Dawande, Dweck and myself. I thought my thoughts and how my words were said really tied together my final essay together. I believe this final essay worked for me because having Professor Drown as a coach and being able to ask questions throughout class is very helpful. Having talking to Professor Drown I feel like a need to work on building on my sentence structure. After talking through our conference I feel like we were both on the same page on what I did well throughout the class and that most things were worked on as I completed the semester.

Action Plan/ Adjustments

My plan going into English 110 will be taken at a different approach. I had no idea what English 122 was going to be like. Now going into 110 I am going to try harder on my homework which will connect to the essay hopefully just like 122 was like. Something that I am looking forward too in 110 is having Professor Miller as my teacher again. Something I plan on doing is also keeping my tutoring going into the Spring semester so I will have someone to help me if I begin to struggle with my work in 110. I would like to be prepared to go into every class ready to have a conversation and understand what is going on.
