Learning Outcome 4

When first doing peer review in class I thought it was unhelpful because we already commented on our peers work. As the semester progressed and essays were more open ending, peer review was actually helpful. It was nice to sit down and go over the comments that my peers made and what they meant when they were commenting. At the beginning of the semester, my edits on other essays were short and vague. As the semester came to a close, and essays were more open edited I felt as if my comments expanded and really helped and encouraged my peers to elaborate more on their essays. For me, peer review was something important because when I was stuck and didn’t know what to write my peers would give me ideas and I soon was no longer stuck. While grammar corrections were always helpful the comments that made the most impact where ideas to improve my writing. For example, in our last essay, my peers did not know they had to state Wallace’s argument, and if it wasn’t for peer review they would have lost points in this section.
